Carcassonne-Seuil de Naurouze, westbound route
Across the heart of the Lauragais, pastel country, you sail up to the source of the Canal du Midi.
The Lauragais, « land of cocagne », went through a period of prosperity until the XVIIth century thanks to the famous pastel blue. Architectural treasures dot the countryside, mansions, castles, bell towers made of red brick, Toulouse type.
The Canal du Midi glides peacefully through this large agricultural plain bordered to the north and south by gently rolling hills steeped in sunshine.
Castelnaudary, world capital of Cassoulet, is an essential gastronomic stopover and the opportunity to discover the PDO wines of Malepère and Cabardès.

Carcassonne-Le Somail, eastbound route
You sail across the Minervois, its vineyards, olive groves and truffle farms promising superb palate- titillating escapades. Along the way, the Canal lazily meanders through the plains, skirting picturesque villages and numerous works of art. To the north rise the rounded summits of the Montagne Noire and, to the south, the impressive mountain range of the Pyrénées.

Westbound: Carcassonne-Seuil de Naurouze

Visits

  • The medieval walled city of Carcassonne by day or night. A traditional tour with a guide or in the form of an escape game or urban game,
  • The medieval city of Mirepoix, its XVth century arches fronting the central square and its market,
  • The Revel Bastide founded in 1342, of the Benedictine Abbey of Sorèze founded in 745, it became a royal military school in the XVIth century, it now houses the works of Dom Robert, a master upholsterer of the XXth century,
  • The castle of plants in the heart of the blue triangle: discovery of the secrets of pastel from the harvesting of the plant to the making of the 'Pays de Cocagne' blue dye,
  • The pottery NOT dating from the XIXth century: a magical visit to a family of potters making the “cassole” by hand (the cassole is the special dish to cook cassoulet,
  • The Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Papoul with its low-relief carvings by the Master of Cabestany,
  • A truff le farm with initiation to truff le hunting.

Wine and chocolate tasting workshops supervised by an oenologist-winemaker (organic wine) and a chocolate maker (1h15). Thanks to a simple method, in a playful and friendly atmosphere, you will learn to sample different wine and chocolate combinations

Grape-blending workshop: supervised by an oenologist (2h30)
You will learn the basics of wine-sampling and, then, with a test tube and basic varietal
wines, make your own blend of “Grand Cru”.

Cooking workshop: traditional French or vegan cuisine.

A peaceful car ride on one of the most popular and mythical convertible French cars, a Citroën 2CV, in the Lauragais rural, hilly countryside, looking out for the typical “murs-clochers”.

Eastbound : Carcassonne-Le Somail

  • Saint-Just Cathedral and the celebrated covered food market by the Robine Canal in Narbonne,
  • In the middle of Mediterranean garrigue, the Cathar village of Minerve perched on a rocky promontory, between two impressive river gorges and natural bridges,
  • A truffle farm with initiation to truffle hunting

The fare includes

  • Six nights on board.
  • All the meals: the meals on board and the two meals at gourmet restaurants.
  • All local wines, bar and refreshments on board.
  • Station or hotel transfers to and from the Mirage. A supplement of 150 € for transfers from and to Toulouse and Montpellier.
  • All excursions and visits to historic sites, markets, villages, museums (including entrance fees). The various workshops, wine tastings.
  • The use of bicycles and books.
  • WIFI and Internet access on board.

Not included in the fare

  • Travel insurance which is highly recommended.
  • Wine and alcohol ashore,
  • All personal purchases,
  • Telephone and Internet access outside the barge,
  • The laundry which can be done by a professional on shore.
  • Crew tips (5-10% of the cruise fare recommended) normally given to the captain in local currency at the end of the cruise.

Out of respect for the environment, the barge was equipped, in 2019, with a grey water biological treatment unit.
