River cruise &
Built In 1954
Mirage is one of the last Freycinet gauge barges built in riveted steel. After a long career in grain transportation on French waterways, she narrowly escaped scrapping, a campaign in the 1990s which consisted of destroying many old barges to rejuvenate the French boat fleet. Mirage changed name several times, Obsidian, Roche d’Eau, and then Mirage, before being rehabilitated for housing. The barge is then shortened by approximately 9 meters (~29.5 ft) in order to navigate on the ‘Canal du Midi’. With her 30.85 m long (~101 ft) and 5.05 m wide (~16.5 ft), she remains despite everything, one of the largest barges still navigating on the canal. Still powered by her original engine. Mirage has been restored as a hotel barge, equipped with comfort and autonomy, to live to the rhythm of river cruises.
As a bed and breakfast, self-catering cruising barge or all-inclusive cruise, with her 3 cabins equipped with queen size beds and their private bathrooms and toilets, Mirage can accommodate up to 6 persons.
Her charm is matched only by the one of the ‘Canal du Midi’ where she is moored at the Herminis lock in Carcassonne.
On the deck, you can relax on the 50 m2 teak terrace (~538sqft) transformed into a real Summer lounge with her deckchairs, comfortable armchairs, and spa. You will be able to enjoy the charm and tranquility of the canal banks, in the middle of the largest vineyard in Europe.
